Recently I posted a 1962 FS proof nickel and pictures outside of the 2 by 2 card holder were requested. Is there a safe way of doing this without damaging the coin? Or should I leave as is and wait for PCGS and see if they would take it out?

I gave you three options to do so in your original thread ... and also some friendly advise regarding the economics of sending this coin to PCGS.

Most 2x2 card holders have a peel off cover over the glue which sticks them for sealing. I always leave the 'peel off' in place, and use staples.
For photography, I release the staples and use new ones to re house the coin.
It is just my way of re using the 2x2 and not having to re write all of the information onto a new 2x2.

It's just a 2x2. Yes, you do have to take some care, but just cut it out with scissors or carefully rip it open, one staple hole at a time. Scissors are probably better if you're worried about slipping and having your coin run into a staple tip. I've probably cut out or ripped out over a thousand 2x2s in my life and never had a disaster that damaged my coin.

@Nickelsearcher. Sorry, just saw the reply in the other discussion. I was driving and didn't have access to the Internet. I guess I won't be sending it in then. At least it's still a beautiful coin. I actually have two of them but that one was the best example.

No worries ... still looking forward to viewing a photo of your coin without the 2x2 glare in your original thread.

Allow me to be more specific on 2x2 removal technique if you are still concerned about damage to the coin ... following is the ultra-conservative method ...

Place a clean towel down at your work area and put cotton gloves on your hands.

Use a sharp pair of scissors and nibble away at the corners of the 2x2 until the the 2x2 is chopped away nearing the plastic cover ... lift the 2x2 and lay the coin on the clean towel.

My method ... stick the point of whatever pen I have handy through the plastic lens, twist the coin .. and out it comes.

With experience comes comfort at such things.

Don't worry, I wasn't texting or checking the internet while I was out. I checked when I leFT work, and I checked upon arriving at home. I would never do multiple tasks while driving.
