Hi,

Recently bought a house in Essex, England. The whole place needed modernisation. Ripped the old kitchen out, which appeared to have been installed in 1982 (newspapers under units of that date).

When I pulled out the old skirting board I found a 1976 Dime! I have no idea how an American coin came to be behind some skirting board in a kitchen in Essex!

Anyone have any finds in weird places?

Andy

My house was built in 1952 so lots of things need upgrading. Since moving in in 2005 I've replaced every window (22 total) and the rear sliding glass door, and remodeled both bathrooms and both kids bedrooms. In every window and door frame, and in every wall that I've put up new drywall I have put a penny with the year that I did the work. So if anyone ever does these windows/doors/walls again in the future, they'll get a 1 cent present, and know when the work was done. I haven't thought about using foreign coins though. Food for thought. Thanks!

I did something similar to TJB17. I floored my attic, and put some older and new pennies under one of the boards. This way, if someone goes to replace the board in the future, they'll stumble upon a little cache of coins. Hope they don't tear up the rest of the house in search for more :).

I do this all the time around the house and yard. I enclose, bury, encase, put underneath, etc, whenever I build something, install something, or fix something if its appropriate. Pennies, nickels, State Quarters of the year the work was done. We've also drawn cartoon representations of ourselves behind wallboards and things with the project year noted to say "Hi" to the future. Did a type set of 2010 coins under my fireplace hearth even. Just one quarter and dollar, though, but that'll be a real treat to whoever finds it.
