I was going in to pay for my gas when a young kid in front of me laid some change on the counter for candy when I saw the coin screaming at me saying (grab me) I asked the clerk for it and it cost me a nickel.

It appears to be a proof. I see a few large hairlines and possibly a couple marks by Jefferson's shoulder. The grade may be around a PR-63 give or take depending on how many imperfections it actually has. Still a pretty nice find for a nickel.

Nice job being able to spot that in change. I posted a 1964 proof on here yesterday. Were you asked why you wanted the coin?

There are no flaws on this coin at all what appears to scratches or flaws are not on the coin. I have a proof 65 1963 nickel and this one makes it look sick. It looks like a two sided mirror.

Absolutely a beautiful proof! Is that doubling I see? or just reflection?

Hi,

I'll go with Pf-62 just because the photo has some shadowed areas that may divulge some surprises when lightened up..

I have a high grade 1963 Proof in my nickel book and it does not look as good as this one. The so called scratches was something left on the coin after wiping it off. there is not a scratch or blemish of any kind on this coin and has a Superior strike. I'm thinking more on the line of Proof.66 or 67 and probably higher.

as nice as it looks it couldn't have been handled that much...I hope the kid didn't swipe it from a family member's collection for some candy
