Hi chryc.....just looking at your one quarter anna I have a 1858 quarter anna but the head side is different, where as yours has a bust of the queen mine has 2 lions one either side of a shield did they change design....just wondering.....roy

The British started their rule of India in 1858, so you must have the last pre British Indian design.

Yup, that's the East India Company shield. India used to be owned an operated by the British East India Company under charter from the British government. After the Indian Mutiny in 1857, the Company was shut down and India became a British viceroyalty.
