Interesting article, but I doubt we will ever have a Twenty Cent coin again unless the US makes one as well.

The nickel is bound to disappear in the future. The question is when?

If they do get rid of some of our coins its a good idea to make the coins smaller rather than bigger like the $1.00 and $2.00 could have been a lot smaller I can't imagine how big the $5.00 coin would have been if they kept going with bigger coins for higher denominations. We would have to get bigger pockets and wear suspenders to carry them or a suitcase in the case for ladies as a purse.

Excatly. Get rid of the dime. Too smal and never holds any importance in my purchases.

too small to make a difference- and yet it was used to honour volunteers in 2001 lol
The only other time I can think of the dime not having the Bluenose is the 1967 mackerel.

And Pre-Bluenose design of course In 1937 to now, only once has it not had the Bluenose for part of the mintage, 1967. In 2001, most of the mintage was the Volunteer design but some was the Bluenose.

I doubt that the loonie or toonie will get smaller. Too much recalibration needed for machines and possible abuse (people filling up toonie rolls with pennies or nickels or dimes). The dime won't go away because it's too profitable for the time being. And a 20 cent coin? Come on... that won't happen. A $200 wouldn't see much use at all. If there were enough inflation to the point where people always carried a bunch of $100s at a time it would be better to have a $500 bill, not a $200 bill.
It's quite possible that the penny was removed as a stepping stone to remove the nickel. Like I've said before, a dollar makes no sense without the 1 cent; we may as start using shillings. How do you break up a dime when there's no penny or nickel -? Might as well just redefine the dollar at that point. 10 cents makes no sense without the 1 and 5.

With the extra slot available in cash registers (the old 1-cent slot), I would like to see a 50-cent coin circulating again...

I think that handling too small denomination coins actually causes inflation more than getting rid of them.
