Please give your opinion on this coin, real or fake.

I decided to take a small gamble and got it from a little shop in California. Started having some doubts but haven't seen it yet on the fake sites, but nor have I seen one quite like it anywhere else.

Thanks

Well do believe its ancient. I also do think it might be for the Sicily around maybe 400 BC these are guesses based on design. I am really not sure as I have none of these and the ones that are out there, even in bad condition are oober expensive. I think the eye is in profile rather then head on so I wouldnt think its from the Archaic period. I am sure someone would be able to add more.

Way out of my comfort zone but I agree with Anoob. Real, 400-500BC and Sicily. Do you have weight and size?

Mostly reminds me of Catana:

Also a little of Syracuse and Leontini.

Perhaps a little closer, again Catana.

Sorry I forgot size and weight. I'll get it when I go home at noon.

There are some Catana's without the flying victory but the portrait is quite different.

Getting close to a bingo now I feel

This example does not contain a flying Nike/Victory?, neither does yours I feel, it also looks a better match size wise.

I won't call you crazy Bobby, but for the life of me I can't see KAT and N on there anywhere. Where do you see that?

I still have some doubts but the size is 25.5mm and weight is 14.8g.

I'm not familiar enough with tetradrachms to know if this is in the right range.

The other examples shown here are appx. 16.5 to 17.5g, but I did see another cantana tet on the web that was 14.5g?

I'll try to get better pics and show the edge also, There is a spot on the edge that could be a sprue mark. Whether it's from the ancient sprue or not I don't know.

Here is, hopefully, a better picture of the coin and a couple of edge views.

The left edge view is what I thought might be remnants of a sprue. The right shows the taper to the coin. It is thicker at the top and thinner at the bottom.

Sorry things weren't better at the beginning.

Thanks for the comments and once again comments appreciated.

I did find these earlier:

No reason for posting other than that I found them while looking for matches to your coin.
