1883 Liberty nickels 'No Cents' production 5.4 million (or there about).

1883 Liberty nickels 'With Cents' production 16 million (or there about).

If the numbers for the CENTS coin is sooooo much higher why is the premium given to this coin and not the 'No Cents' coin? Help straighten out my brain. Thanks.

The 'No Cents' nickels were hoarded while the 'With Cents' were not.

Expanding on what Windchild said, they had to change the design because people were gold-plating them and passing them off as five dollar gold pieces. By the time they instituted these changes, any new coin mania (meaning saving) was gone.

SsuperDdave,

My most humble apologies. But look at it this way, we've reached more people with new knowledge plus some old knowledge for the forgetful.

I'm not sure how I missed the last post.

Josh was considered to be deaf and dumb but he was more intelligent than anybody thought or gave him credit for. One of those expressions that changed with time. Idiot savant is now referred to as savant. I heard that a person who is funny, charming and witty is now referred to as mds308.

Then I woke up.
