I'm a newbe to this site - from Massachusetts - just came across it while searching google. I'm not a 'serious' collector but do like to 'collect' lincoln cents and Morgan dollars.
Can anyone out there tell me if they've come across what I guess might be a die error on one of my coins - 1913P Lincoln Cent. On the reverse associated with the lettter 'E' in E. Pluribus Unum is an area where the letter joins the rim in sort of a triangle pattern.
Anyone ever seen this?
I have attached a photo - hope it comes out good.
- T

John.

Sounds like you may have a die chip or a die break, but we're going to need a better picture if we're going to help you with this. If your camera has macro capability please use it if you know how. Try to focus in on the area of concern as close as you can. Good luck. Hope we can help more soon.

I am also from Mass.
Yes, a close up of the area would help much.

Thanks for your input - I have tried to improve the picture. I'm new at this so let me know how I did...... Thanks ..//. sorry can't get the pic to upload. It says it must be less than 100 kb - which it is. It also is a jpeg file. Oh well, I'll keep trying

Check the properties of the pic. file.
Has to be just a tad under 100
Just crop it a little and that will decrease the file size.

possibly a Cud.

Quote:
cud
An area of a coin struck by a die that has a complete break across part of its surface. A Cud may be either a Retained Cud, where the faulty piece of the die is still in place, or a full Cud, where the piece of the die has fallen away. Retained Cuds usually have dentil detail if on the edge, while full Cuds do not.
