I found this while going through my coins today, I almost forgot I had it. In another thread we talked about when collecting becomes an obsession, well what happens when you collect and you know longer know what you have? So anyways after seeing GG's Claudius II Gothicus Aequitas. I swore I had one but this is what I found. Any comments, additions or further attribution is always welcome. Trajan (98-117AD) AR Denarius 2.86g x 18.3mm obv. Trajan's laureate bust right, draped over left shoulder-IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC? rev. Aequitas standing, facing left, scales in right hand, cornucopia in the left. -COS VPPS ? PRINC Edited by Ancientnoob 01/06/2013 11:56 am

That's a nice Trajan Aequitas denarius coin! A lot of the legend is worn off so it's difficult to attribute. Perhaps you can narrow it down on Wildwinds if you haven't done so already.

Just kinda pulled it out today, that unattributted pile I got-is getting smaller. The coins are starting to find there way into the flips sooner or later...The more I look at it, it looks like the the VPPS is maybe VRBS which I think would make a little more sense. I will have to look into it further.

I think this coin has a good chance of being attributed. I have around 40 or so that never will because they are late Romans of poor quality and worn or damaged really bad.

My pile is all somewhat attributedable, when ever I bought coins I tried to never get slugs, in the early years I convinced myself that a 2000 year old coin should look 2000 years old, but still be a coin and not a slug. Now-I think a little different. I don't think I would buy this coin now, as I agree it is rather worn and latly my collection has taken me far from Rome, but I figured once I reach China I'd turn back, show Alexander how its done.

Despite being low grade I believe it is still a collectible coin. If I needed a Trajan, I would get it if the price was low.

Now is this Trajan any type of rare variant or anything cool like that?

For being "low grade", the portrait has a lot of detail--very obviously Trajan from the bust alone.
