Does anyone have any news about the NH White Mountain National Forest ATB Quarter release ceremony? Supposedly it is to take place around the date of the release of the quarter which is supposed to be January 28th, but I have not found ANYTHING official on the release ceremony on the net. Due to it's relatively close proximity to NY I was planning to attend this one, but can't find anything concrete to help solidify my plans.

The only thing I have found regarding it is on ebay. This pre-sale for a roll of WMNF quarters from the release ceremony says it has been postponed to February 13th. Can anyone verify this?

Other news that I hadn't heard: This pre-sale also says they'll include P-D-S quarters in 2x2s (and an airtight)... has anyone else heard that the Mint is officially planning to continue the S-mint ATB Quarters in 2013?

Yes, the S-mint non circulating quarters will continue to be made in '13. Don't know anything about the quarter release ceremony, though, presumably there will be one for NH.

Thanks Bizy. Not sure how I missed that. Half of me wanted them to just be a one year issue.

You and me both, TJB17, the other half wishes they weren't issued at all or began properly in 2010. These S quarters ruin the symmetry of the Dansco, but now that they are here, the quality is vastly superior to any D or P circulation quarter I've seen with the exception of the Denali-D. Good luck and safe travels to White Mountain. The national forest is a best kept secret/hidden gem, easy to get to half day drive from NYC when I lived in the East Coast during the '90s. A classic place for childhood summer camp.

Are they still doing those things? I know a year or so ago they said they weren't going to be doing the first day ceremonies anymore but I don't remember if it was for the quarters or the dollars, or both.

The last dollar coin launch ceremony was in 2011 for the Garfield dollar. Now that dollars are released for collectors only, there are no launch ceremonies anymore, only for the America the Beautiful Quarters. My friend went to Puerto Rico last year and was at the El Yunque quarter release ceremony.

As soon as I learn the release date for the White Mountain National Forest quarter, I will make plans to drive from Connecticut up to New Hampshire, as the journey would be only about 200 miles for each leg.

I received a response from the ebay seller.

I have a contact at Coin World who e-mails me with updates. Feb. 13th is still a tentative date as the WMNF is still working out the final plans with the US Mint. I don't think you'll find anything on the internet until about 1 to 2 weeks prior to the ceremony.

There has been a Facebook event page created for the launch ceremony. It will take place at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Plymouth State University's Hanaway Theater.

In case anyone is going to the ceremony, I checked out the Plymouth State University's Silver Center and found this on their web site. It says to park at the PSU Welcome Center and Ice Arena, which from the map of the campus looks to be on Holderness Road across the river from the SIlver Center. Also, from this web site it says the physical address of the Silver Center is 114 Main Street, Plymouth, NH. Do not use 17 High Street as that is the mailing address only .

Here's a map of the campus to make it a little easier.

Tonight I attended the coin forum at the White Mountain Nation Forest headquarters. The acting Mint Director Richard Peterson was there and personally conducted the forum. He gave us some of his background and it turns out he's an ex-Navy nuke, so he can't be all that bad. He said the last release ceremony he attended was the Hawaii release (big surprise there), so it was a nice treat for us to have him here tonight. There were about twenty people in attendance with the majority of questions coming from the 4 or 5 people in the front rows. Lots of topics were covered. I'll try to reiterate those that I can remember to the best of my memory.

- Future of the penny (he asked us what the Mint should do with it)
- Why mintage numbers have been down across the board since 2009 and how the mint is dealing with running at 20% capacity
- Alternative metals and how they would affect the vending industry (basically no viable options were found)
- S-mint circulation quarters: why they were started and what's in the future (answers: requested in mint questionnaires and will continue for the foreseeable future)
- Why the 2015 march of dimes commemorative is going to be a dollar coin rather than a dime. Some of us audience members requested that he invoke his powers as Mint director to authorize a dime on his own rather than wait for congressional authorization, since the design of the dime has not changed for the requisite 25 years.

There were other topics covered, but the forum lasted an hour and a half, so I can't recall them all. If anyone else was there, feel free to leave your own thoughts on the forum.
