Hello,

Is this coin genuine? It weights about 33,4 grams. I'm going to buy it on the internet auction.

Are there any tips in design's particular places which can make me distinguish the original coin from the counterfired one?

Thank you for your opinion in advance.

You're missing a serious deficiency in color accuracy.

But, like oih82w8, I have a hard time recommending the expenditure of $1500+ on a raw gold coin by anyone who feels the need to ask for public opinion. This is a job for experienced gold collectors only.

I think it's the lighting in the picture. I thought it looked silver too and saw the "Twenty Dollars" denomination, and went, "Huh?" After going back up and looking at it again, I can see more of the color despite the bad lighting, but still wouldn't hinge the purchase on those photos.

Unfortunately not really. When it comes to U.S gold coins, struck counterfeits are found with more regularity than U.S coins of other metals and often times they use a genuine coin to make the dies used to strike planchets made of the correct composition and mint specifications.

There is nothing about this coin that looks questionable. The date is as common as they come and weight is on the money. Verifying thickness and diameter confirms it's gold but if its an internet auction you don't get that opportunity.

I agree with the other posters, if you don't have experience buying these raw then you are better off picking up a certified piece. They are widely available at little to no premium over a raw piece.

Holding one of these big, heavy coins in your hand is the experience you miss buying certified. You gain piece of mind. Lots of it.
