The person you are talking about is NOT a coin dealer; he is a commodity broker. Since sales of PCGS graded coins can and do take place on a sight-unseen basis, he obviously has no interest in the coin inside the slab, probably doesn't care and doesn't want to learn anything about them. He just knows how coins are currently traded now. Just as options traders don't care about how the Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice or Pork Bellies taste, this guy could care less about the actual quality of the item. It's lax at best. If you have another choice, make it.

As a relatively new collector myself, I found that "buy the book" was the best advice I ever received.
I've never sold a coin, but I believe you'll find that if you take the time to educate yourself on grading coins, you'll find yourself better armed when it comes to buying and/or selling coins.
You'll find many honest coin dealers, and a few that are a little shady, but, if you are prepared in advance with the knowledge of the grade and value of a coin, you'll be better able to differentiate between the two.
