I am very excited about the possibility of attending Stacks Bowers auction on the 24th. The auction may well bring the highest prices of all time. It would be awesome to view the coins from the Cardinal Collection personally; do you think that they would permit me to handle such rarities as the 1794 dollar and the finest known Half Disme and to attend the auction? I think that would be an unforgettable experience. Have any of you been to a comparable show/auction? I am lucky because I live only a 40 minute train ride away, and hope that the entrance fee is reasonable. I am tempted to bid on the 1793 Cap Cent, especially at around $1,500 :)

If you don't want to get yourself out of control on the bidding floor, perhaps a fixed price bid lodged with the auctioneers may be the way to go for you.
Then, you just sit back and watch!
And hope.

I have been known to attend numismatic auctions like this, just for the entertainment!
In the auto industry, I would be known as a tire kicker!

The experience can be of great benefit anyway, especially if you want to sell valuable coins via public auction later on.

Entrance fee? And you'll probably need a couple more zeros for that 93 cap.

It won't cost any entrance fee to attend and they will let you examine all the lots you want if you go during their posted lot viewing hours. Everything is done in a very secure manner and you will have to fill out paperwork and prove your identity. If you also want to bid you will have to do more paperwork. They will provide a meal during the auction, too, and it is usually quite good. I have attended many of these, but with the availability of bidding via the net fewer people go to these sales.
