Hi all,
I just bought this coin and am having a tough time figuring out which variety of '9' it is. The holder simply states 'N9 RPD' without going into further detail. I'm leaning towards either N9 DP1 or N9 DP2 but even there I'm unsure. Any help in nailing this down would be appreciated. Thanks.

Actually, the more I look at this, the more it looks like a DP2. But, with there being such a bewildering number of varieties in 1859 I'm still not certain.

Not a DP #2 - There are a ton of variations with these, yours looks like page 283 of the 65th edition Charlton Standard Catalogue.

Haxby PC59-101 is the catalog number. http://www.vickycents.com/rev-e12.html

It is a pairing of Obverse 10 with Reverse 12. Nice coin and photos. The die cracks at leaf 5 and 7 clinched it.

Thanks everyone for your help. What would be the approximate retail value for this coin? I don't have the Charlton catalogue that lists this one.

Charlton 2011 pg 283 (If it is indeed that coin, it is at least very similar) lists it at $200 EF-40. On ebay you might get around $50 with good photos. Perhaps more on a good day.

There are nearly 3 dozen identified repunched 9's some very obvious others less so. Yours is amoung the more obvious.

Nybird, thanks for the info and the interesting link. It seems the 1859 cent could be a hobby all in itself with so many variations.

It is. Of the known 231 die pairs, I am short about 26 at this writing. Picked up a very rare one yesterday still waiting for it to come before I cross it off the list. It is the non-valuable vanilla (read no special repunches) ones that I am missing. Non-valuable does not mean non-rare it seems.

I agree 100% with them!
Ed, looks like you gained one on me. I still need 28.
Good luck in your search!

Ed, that number still include the free one I sent you? Or did you find a better one?
