On the booklet the mint mailed to me, all the new annual sets presented do not include the 1 cent coin. Do you think that the cent is completely withdrawn?

yes. They may make some commemoratives, but no more regular pennies.

"The 2013 uncirculated set includes the 6 denominations of coins produced this year."

I don't see why the half dollar is still in there.

As others have said...with the smaller denomination coins on the way out (if we follow suit with Australia removing their 2 lowest denominations) then the 50cent coin may actually become a circulating coin again some day in the future. Once again earning it's place in the sets. Either way, I amnot at all surprised that the RCM didn't include the penny in their sets.

I'd rather let them get rid of the dime than the nickel. It's too small.

I still remember when Canada wanted to reduce the size of the penny to save on cost, but the size was in conflict with the aluminum token used by the Toronto Transit Commission, so the idea was scrapped. It is sad to see that beautiful twin maple leaf design leave general circulation. I will remember my Canadian pennies fondly.

I had hoped that they would keep at least 1 set with the iconic penny, but they are holding true to their word of pulling all the pennies, not just the circulation ones. I would love to have the 50-cent pieces re-enter our everyday lives/change, but every time I try handing out/using at the stores, most of the young generation don't know what it is and won't accept it. Nowadays, since they don't make circulation 50-cent pieces, the cost is prohibitive to try "kickstart" the usage of them, would need the mint to start producing as circulation coins, which I am not sure they would even look at unless enough "voices" were raised around this issue. It sounds like the next coin on their list is a $5-coin (a FINNIE ?). Government is still nudging us closer to a moneyless society and as a collector, that is the last thing I want, so raise your voices !
