I have been collecting silver for some time now. Recently thought about buying some gold. Recently bought some foreign 90% gold coins a little below spot value. Coins I bought are around 1/4 oz gold which suits me as I don't have money for full oz coins and bars. Is it a good strategy to accumulate gold or is foreign gold too risky?

Well, Ima not to sure about south american coins, gold and silver either, however I have bought proof gold coins from South Africa and Australia as an example so buying foreign gold isn't a bad buy.

You also have The Royal Mint, Mexico and their gold Libertads, to name a few.

hope that helps!

I recently saw a gold chain (new and not junk jewelry) with a 1 gram weight for basically spot cost. I wondered if getting a few would be worth it. They do have a easy weight and were basically available for spot. I thought they had an intrinsic gold value plus a jewelry value. Just wonder what anyone thinks about this type of 'investment' I had read of the gold cards that crack off 1 gram pieces that pretty much cost more than spot.

you can usually get foreign gold for melt or slightly below melt. The more popular gold is the gold eagle which is going to cost you above melt
