Ok so yesterday I went to my coin shop and to my surprise it was closed but I didn't know so I sat in my car waiting for 30 min! well I saw a older man pull up and get a big box and walk to the door, pulled but it was closed turned around put the box of coins (apparently really heavy) back in his car, talked to me about my car (1958 vw bug) and that was that. Today I was in there doing a lil trading and the guy comes in with the box, I'm all excited since I wanted to know what could be that heavy. BOOM tons of original bank wrapped rolls he had probably 25 penny rolls, 25 nickel rolls, and 15 dime rolls, and any thing else buried under those rolls!! He left the coin collection with them to have them evaluate them and come in tomorrow. When he left I pulled one roll if nickels out (I love nickels) and dumped it out they were the most beautiful 1961 P nickels I've ever seen (not exaggerating) well I looked at the ends of most rolls and they were all from 1961 and older including the dimes!! So I told her to get them and I would buy them from her, now what would be a good price per roll? I told her I would buy 10 nickel rolls and 10 penny rolls but I might want to buy more! I wish I could buy a dime roll but I'm fairly poor . I told her not to open them and they were from Cleveland if I can remember correctly. What would the values be? Should I buy them? Sorry to rant on....

50 dimes at $2 a piece (20Xface) is $100. I know the local dealer is selling at 22Xface (25 for cherry-pickin'), but not sure what they're buying at. I'd find out then give an offer above the dealer's. The dealer may not like you, if they know about it.

would $5 per roll of nickels be too much? it seems like nobody has any experiences when it comes to original rolls?

You should have never let that man walk away without asking what he had for sale. I would have been on him like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

I too just don't understand why you didn't say something like IF those are coins, would you consider selling them to me? Or anything like that. WOW, were you sleeping?

yes I know I'm kicking myself in the butt on this one ... But this weekend I'm meeting up with a older lady (probably 60) that her grandpa and dad collected coins and she has the entire collection!! I talked to her and she said that they collected stacks of Kentucky paper money and tons of coins so I hope that will make up for my loss on the rolls.. Does anybody know a value on the rolls though? Original Wheat cent rolls? Nickels? Dimes? All are before 1962

Sounds like you are in a similar situation to me (for the later story) I'm going to go through a coin hoard and a coin collection over the summer, in return for some of the coins in the group. Along with that, I can buy at dealer prices, so it will be a cheap way to add some coins to my collection. Post pictures of what you find in the collection!

I will, I've been lucky enough to have looked at 3 very large coin collections over the past year, one of which had 13 Trade dollars!! The lady said that she would like to sell me anything that I want from her collection this weekend so I'm fairly excited!!

Ok so I ended up buying 5 rolls I bought a 1968-s cent roll because it looks like an RPM, a 59 D roll of nickels, a 61 P roll of nickels because the end has a lamentation error on the back, then a 1976 and 1976 D roll of pennies all for $18. I think I did fairly well considering all of the coins are perfect in their OG rolls. What do you guys think?

That's a total of 230 BU U.S. Coins for $18, amounting to about 13 cents, apiece. Sounds good.
