Im not sure if this has been done before. I know there are several threads on pocketpieces, but I wanted to share progressive photos of my coin to show its transformation from a BU to a circulated Bicentennial Eisenhower dollar. I got this coin at a bank while on vacation with my family. It reminds me of the trip and of my family. It has been rubbed for good luck many times, though it didnt seem to work during the Nationals/Cardinals game 5 this past season... I do not blame the coin entirely. Here is a photo of my coin from Summer 2012: Here is an updated photo, taken today: Feel free to share your pocket pieces progression! *** Edited by Staff - Uploaded PB images here. ***

cool thread idea, you can see that your Eisenhower dollar has lost a fair amount of detail, especialy on the hairlines. Anywho, I'll have to load some pics.

Goes to show that wear is the result of all those years a coin spent in circulation, but toning is not. The day a coin was removed from circulation into a collection, it was worn, but shiny, from all those hands and pockets. The toning (tarnish) only appeared after the coin was no longer "wild," but in a collector's album. When you look at it that way, the toning seems less a part of a coin's history, and more of a meaningless afterthought.

Interesting to see the progression. It will likely get more and more rare to see a true pocket piece coin due to so many people dealing only with plastic for payment instead of coins. It is always fun to see an old coin that somebody carried with them as a good luck charm or sentimental piece.

I hate stereotypes... I've always been given somewhat stereotypical nicknames... and it is always annoying. Always good to find a way so you have more time for a project... Especially if it is last minute (I'm a star student, and not a procrastinator, but I've been given too many projects in one week and have been glad that the teachers are delayed as none have the time to finish them all and have to chose which projects to finish) I really should get a pocket piece, but haven't found a coin that I want to keep in my pocket all the time. I'm writing this in school.... Sitting through a description of a project I finished

Awesome coin! Thanks for sharing. What coin is that? A commemorative or is that issued regularly? I know nothing about Canadian currency...

Quote: Awesome coin! Thanks for sharing. What coin is that? A commemorative or is that issued regularly? I know nothing about Canadian currency... Yeah 'tis a commemorative coin, every year since 1971, canada has issued at least one different commemorative silver dollar design. From 71 to 91 they were 50% ag with a 36mm diameter, and 92 to the present they have been issued in sterling ag with the same diameter, a few years they issued special .999 fine silver dollars, but those have super low mintages and are generally quite expensive. So yeah, that coin is specific to 1993 but the coin is part of a pretty long series. EDITED to add: I'm glad you like the coin , if your interested canada issued another hockey themed silver dollar in 1997 in addition to this one.

I carry a silver Ike as a pocket piece, but folded up in a handkerchief. It has accumulated significant toning, without much in the way of wear.
