Hi Guys,

I'll start by telling you how I got this coin. I had a customer bring me approximately 60 non-US coins. I went through them to cherry pick the silver and anything unusual. There were 4 silver coins worth around 8 dollars in silver. Nothing great. When he was leaving he asked me if I wanted the other coins and I told him about the one I saw with an anchor and I thought it was a very cool looking coin. He ended up letting me have the coin for free. I collect some nautical memorabilia and the anchor and ships wheel on this coin had a great look.

After loading the pictures and cropping them I noticed what looks like a die clash on the coin. If you look to the left of the anchor ring it appears the arrow feathers from the reverse are clashed on the obverse. Do you guys see this or am I imagining it. I know it's probably not any big deal but I thought it added to an already cool looking coin. Any ideas or input would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I would say so on a clash.
If you had the one with the arrows pointing
downwards, you would have a 10 dollar coin.

I hesitate to disagree with Indian1 but the arrows pointing
downwards occur only on the 1951 date (see the date in the wee stars before and after ESPANA). mds308's coin is 1956.

Pertinax,

My apologies. I did not realize that those numbers in the wee stars was the date. Was 1949 the first year of this coin? Live and learn thanks to this forum.

"Star dates" have been all around on the Spanish peseta(s) and centimos coins for most of the 20th century. It's a major nuissance as you need a looking glass to figure out what's the real date a coin was issued. The date printed in large typically is the first year of issuance of that partibular variety. I will post a few pics if I can get them as sharp as does 'mds308'.
