Hey guys, I got my new holders yesterday put my ikes inside, so here I am putting my 1972 in it's new holder. The holder said 1972 type 1. I have a 1972-s and it didn't say anything about the type. So I googled them found some good information but I need you guys to tell me if I put the right type on them.

History about 1972 ( not the proof)
About 5 years ago I bought the 1972 for 3 dollars. I never really look at it because it's not in good shape. It might be AU-50. I looked at the earth and saw 3 little island off Florida. I check my 1972-s proof and saw no islands. So my guess is the 1972 is type-1 or type-3? I will upload photo of them both asap.

* sorry its not a proof* I got mixed, lol.

Remember, the three varieties only apply to the 1972 (Philadelphia), not the 1972-D or 1972-S.

All of the 1972-S (Silver Proof and Silver BU) were variety 2. The first photo looks like a proof, and it has the variety 2 reverse.

By the way, I just moved this to the V&E sub-forum, hoping for some more attention.

I never really paid much to the ike. I just bought them because they were nice. I guess I was right then. The 1972-s is type 2, lol. So then the 1972 (normal one) is type 3? I thinking it is because the earth is round.

Correct, round earth and that Florida points into the middle of the islands and not to the west. Islands east of Florida would be variety 1.

You can also find a type 2 on some 72-P's
I have found a half dozen of them over the years
EF,AU and Unc. roll and bulk searching.
Below is one that I have left.
