Bad News For Canadian Penny (Cent) Roll Hunters...

cladhunter13 Pillar of the Community Canada 1161 Posts	Posted 01/18/2013 5:57 pm I received official word today from both of my local RBC branch locations that as of Feb. 3 2013...they will no longer be distributing One Cent (Penny) coins. They told me that it will be the same for all their other locations nation wide. I also asked at my local Scotia and CIBC branches and they said that they have as of yet not received any official word about whether or not they will be allowed to distribute One Cent coins to their customers as of Feb 3rd or not. They did state that they will no longer be able to order One Cent coins as of Feb 3rd. Sigh. Looks like we better stock up. I made a run today to a few of my local banks. Of the 4 banks I stopped at...only 2 had Pennies (cents) available. I did managed to grab 9 boxes of cents from the other 2 banks and I have another 4 on hold for monday. Total box total from today is 3 x Nickels and 9 x 1 Cent. I should be busy all weekend for sure. I hope to hit a fair amount for the bullion guy. silverwolf Pillar of the Community Canada 3733 Posts	Posted 01/18/2013 6:39 pm yes, it is true, I was at two T.D. branches yesterday,I was told no pennies going out as of Feb 4. But you can order them until then. I was able to pick up 2 customer wrapped boxs, from 1 branch, and only 10 rolls from the other. So if you plan to stock pile, you'd better get on it.. I hope the first 2 rolls I just pulled (I do a once over of the end up of the rolls before I start the search) Is a sign of a good box to come. I seen that the 2 rolls both had a wheat ear on the top end so I pulled them. Out of the 2 rolls this is what was in them: US: 1909 plain 1913D 2 x 1914P 1915D 1916P 1919S 1941P 1942P 1944D 1948D 1951D 1953D 1957D 1958D Canada: 1940 1942 1949 A between Dent. 1952 1953 NSF 1954 1957 1951 The rest of the 2 rolls were 60`s and 70`s US and Canadian. All coppers. Not a bad haul on the Wheat Ears from a box of Canadian Cents. Only 448 more rolls to go. LOL! I will take picks after I run through them all. pennysaver Pillar of the Community Canada 937 Posts	Posted 01/18/2013 8:25 pm Sad to say, but yes, we have only just over 2 weeks left to get pennies from the bank... I was in talking to my banker (RBC) and was told the same as the above posters - nothing given out after Feb 3, although they will still take them in from the public. After Feb 3 any that they still have are going to be sent to the mint and melted down. People are picking up boxes in my area -- some guy was in earlier in the day and snagged the last 2 boxes, and there was only $20 in loose rolls left for me. I hit a couple of banks, but I still want to get a few more in before the deadline... Report this Post to the Staff
