Hello there, just hoping to get some opinions on the value, history, etc. of what I found at an estate sale recently. These are sheets of Mississippi 25 cent currency from 1864. Each sheet starts in the upper left corner with "A" and goes to "P" in the bottom right corner. Each bill of each sheet is also individually numbered (all bills for each sheet sharing the same number.) There's 9723, 9699, and 9704. Any info is very appreciated. Thanks much.

Nice sheets! Hugh Shull's book " A Guidebook of Southern States Currency" lists them as Criswell #46 with an individual rarity rating of 5 (800-1500 known). Not particularly rare as individual notes but I expect full sheets are pretty scarce. I think if you look closely at the sheet you will notice that the plate letter "I" is missing. It wasn't used in the original printing. Shull's book gives a value range of $25-$75 for individual notes however a full sheet would definitely bring a premium. In looking at the notes I would also guess that these notes were displayed and have some sun/light fading which will affect the value also. A wild guess as to value would be somewhere between $500 to $1000 per sheet. To get a better evaluation the sheets would have to be examined in person. I really like those sheets and think they should be saved whole if at all possible.

Those sheets are awesome! Is there glass over them in the frame? What would make them so wavy?

I don't know much about these, but I thought each note in a sheet was supposed to have a different serial number?

A lot of Confederate State and also Obsolete notes used the same serial number for a whole sheet. If you look closely at the serials you"ll notice that although the same number was used you can tell they were hand written. That would be appropriate for these sheets.

I was able to tell they were each hand written, by minor differences in the signatures. Thanks for the information on why all the notes on a sheets had the same number. I now now a bit more about these types of sheets and currency.

Thanks for the quick and thorough response Jim. I'm definitely pleasantly surprised with your take on them. Voshus, good eye. One of the sheets (understandably the one is worst condition) was in a frame with no glass. Must have broke at some point or something. So yeah, great info on these notes, I appreciate it. I'll let you all know what happens when I take it to a coin shop to get appraised soon.
