Just wondering...

Regarding varieties, would you expect a roll to be 'all or none'? For instance, you look at the first coin in a previously unopened roll of uncirculated 1984 Lincoln cents. If the first one doesn't have the double ear DDO, does that always mean that the rest of the roll won't either? And vice versa.

My question shows my lack of knowledge about the minting process, but I have assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the mint is pressing out large quantities of coins which go into a hopper of some sort and then into bags or rolls... or are multiple presses/dies in action simultaneously and outputs mixed?

Maybe on older coins the odds would be better
at finding or not finding similar coins in one roll.
They went into bags now they go into big bins so you never know for sure what went into what roll. The mint may even send out bulk minted coins to be rolled at some other location
before being sent out into circulation/banks etc.
Best just to check every single coin in a roll to be sure.

Your chances of finding the same variety multiple times in a OBW roll is greater, but not at a percentage rate that would be significant. As Indian outlined, the coins were all in mint bags before they were put into bank rolls. Now I think your greatest odds would be finding multiples in mint rolls. I came across a lot of 40 OBW rolls of 1959-D Lincolns. I found a total of 42 RPM #5 and they all came from 3 rolls.

I just went through a BU box of 2012P cents. I have been finding a trail die on the reverse of some of them. I have found from one to seven per roll.

I once found 7 S/D 1954 Nickels in one original roll. I think the odds on finding multiple examples was much higher years ago.
