Thirty five years ago I met by chance a 'dealer' of ancients who needed to liquidate his inventory. My lucky day ! Two 'matched' Roman Colonial Bronzes was my reward for being in the right place. Draped and laureled bust of Caracalla right PIVS AVG ANTONINVS Rv. Nike striding left holding laurel wreath and palm branch VICTORIAE DDD NNN COL AN with S R in fields either side of Nike 31-32mm 22.94 grams   After a seven year 'break' from collecting (1995-2002) I discovered ebay and once again got hooked by the same two characters I met back in '78 GETA AE As mint of Rome (AD 211) Obv. References:â€" RIC 2, RSC 70 Titles PONTIF MAX TR P P P (no COS) are rare on denarii. No specimens of this coin in Reka Devnia hoard, for example. Combined with medium beard length of portrait increases interest. Macrinus was letting his beard grow and the same coin can also be found with either short or long beard! This is second issue, date c.
