I recently picked up a 1902 Indian cent. After I got it in better light I noticed that the face looked odd. Take a look and see what I mean. The area in question is around the eye level of the chief. I apologise for the quality of the pic. My scanner is on the fritz and I had to use the camera on an IPAD. Could this be a die crack error?

I think a die crack would be raised on the coin, and this is recessed? My guess it's damage.

I wish the pic would have looked like the ctual coin. The coin is in great shape. Very little wear. I agree with you. It likely is damage rather than error...But a fella can dream, right? lol

Looks like a counter stamp of some sort. Even kind of vaguely like a chop mark you would find on a Trade dollar. Ignore the red arrows in the pic and notice the line running across the bottom of the 186 and to the left and right of those numbers in the date. That is a die crack.

Thanks folks. I guess I will keep looking at my change and maybe find errors soon!
