Lincoln Cent Planchet Error? - A Strange One.

johnjkedel Pillar of the Community United States 594 Posts	Posted 01/18/2013 11:19 pm Found this a couple of years ago and just got around to trying to figure it out... It might be a no brainer for someone, but not for me... (pictures attached). The cent only has a reverse - obviously memorial - quite thin - not even half the thickness of the rim (see balance of topic under pics) . It is some kind of copper coated metal and has FULL rims that are the normal depth of a cent. Here's what puzzles me - It is very much attracted by a magnet. Oh yes - it weighs 1.22 g. Any guesses ? seal006 Pillar of the Community United States 1915 Posts	Posted 01/19/2013 10:30 pm To me it looks like it is made of tin (rusty areas inside). This would explain why it is magnetic. It appears to be one half of a fake coin used for hiding something in. Kinda like spy stuff or contraband. Could even be a covering for a button. Neat find regardless.
