I recently purchased this 1886-S Morgan as a XF. I think it may have a real shot at AU but I am not sure. It still has some nice hair detail above the ear and a little feather detail on the eagles breast. It also still has a nice subdued cartwheel luster on the obverse and reverse. The dollar does have a hit from another coin on the eagles breast and on the obverse, including above the ear. I think though for a tougher to find date this coin is decent and has a shot at AU. Thanks for any input. David

I think XF is the appropriate grade. It does not look like an honest AU and appears to have been dipped or lightly cleaned and is starting to re-tone.

Value wise it would compare to this XF45 piece that sold for $90 on Heritage last fall.

Looks XF40 to me. Nice coin, but I wouldn't pay AU money for it.
