I spent some time at a small local show this morning while the family shopped nearby. I was pretty aimless, without a magnifier or a plan. I ended up making a couple small purchases, including an Unc(?) Buffalo nickel: The halogen lighting doesn't show the pleasing rose and gold hue. It does, however show the digs on the reverse (sorry, camera's macro mode won't focus at higher zoom). Nb, the cracked, uneven appearance on the reverse rim is just the album page. So is this an MS60? or bodybagged Unc? or not an Unc at all? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Edited by texasmick 04/15/2007 11:38 pm

Hi TM--
Even without the bodybagging damage, I don't think it'd go above VF. Hope you didn't spend too much for it.
Nice pictures! Maybe add a touch of whitening to compensate for the yellow light. But they sure look sharp and focussed to me.

Hey, guys, thanks for taking the time to respond!
The bb(?) damage is a dig(?) that begins on the line/ground the buff is standing on and then turns towards 10:00.
I am not at all proficient at grading this series. The pictures in Making the Grade are generally quite good, but I find them awful for this series.
Having said that, I was really surprised to read Fred's thoughts about the wear, as I see none. I would welcome an education, however.
I foolishly paid $17 for this coin.

Seems like a pretty fair retail, the typical markers look uncirculated unless I'm completely missing something...

It looks like it has uncirculated details to me. I think the hit on the reverse would probably prevent it from being graded. The surface looks original. Nice coin, even with the damage and great for an album. I tried to blow up the pics to look at the mint mark but couldn't get it large/clear enough. It would be nice if it was a D/S.

Metalman: I appreciate your optimistic thought, but I didn't see any trace of D/S with a 10x glass. Mom: We all say we want the straight dope, and largely do. But there's a place for comments that make us feel better about a mistake. Thanks. Thanks again to all who chimed in.
