Very, very nice Monkeybean Quote: Hi , a recent metal detecting find , possibly rare ? Yes, I believe it is, the Emperor is Carausius and it was minted in London around 290AD. It could be worth a few quid. This similar example sold for £334.33 in 1984. Yours is better quality and shows the Emperor jumping over a captive (?). The reverse legend is ADVENTVS AVG. Bit late to do much research tonight but will tomorrow if none of our members to the West have not. This is a very nice find indeed, well done.

Very nice Carausius. A good deal of Carausius coins are of low quality. This one isn't bad.

The first coin is an ant. the second a denarius. Still a scarce coin though.

Quite rare. Sell with care to a legitimate dealer specializing in ancient coins. This is not just any old Carausius.

Quote: I've emailed the British museum , I'll let you know That is exactly what I going to suggest. I've not been able to find much info on-line. They will be able to shed more light on it and its rarity than pretty much anyone else, they may even be interested in purchasing it themselves. Even if they are not your correspondence with them will add value to the coin. This reminds me of this thread: https://goccf.com/t/99561Rarity does not always guarantee value but yours is a good quality example of a rare coin and as Doug has already stated if your planning to sell make sure you do it in the right place. Keep us up to date

The more common version of your coins is the horse riding left. Yours is riding right and has a person underneath. And the ADVENTVS AVG legend. The common left riding versions go from $900 - $4500, depending on grade. But I can't give you a value for this coin because I don't know and nor would I be comfortable about giving one.
