Got my first gold coin in my collection! Theodosius II (A.D. 408-450) AU Solidus, A.D. 441-450, Constantinople, 21.7mm, 4.43g, 180°, RIC 323. Obv: D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, cuirassed bust facing right, holding spear over shoulder & shield decorated with horseman. Rev: IMP XXXXII COS XVII P P. Constantinopolis seated left holding cross on globe & scepter, star in left field; CONOB in ex.

Gosh - I love the frontal busts and I love shiny gold things! I had to settle for a copper one but one day... I've got my lottery ticket!
Alas, for now, these beautiful things are too rich for my blood. darn good pick up!

Cool feeling isn't it? I own a few byzantine gold coins, but just received 4 Kidarite gold coins. These are about 8 grams a piece, and I have to admit having the extra "heft" of them in the hand is pretty darn cool.
Grats on your new coin. You went one step further than most collectors, most start out with Byzantine gold, you went straight for the Roman stuff. :)
