Now this has happened to me, just minutes ago, I bid a banknote. No problem, this is a note that I shall want to have in my collection. I whistle away and enter my max bid...X,XX dollars. Looks good, confirm bid. huh!!!!! Now my max bid is XXX dollars! Geez, I didn't want that.

So what's the problem: well, I entered my max bid in form X,XX as I thought it was supposed...unfortunately I forgot that in US system, the amount has to be entered X.XX (with period, NOT comma). Thus, because I used comma, the system now thinks that my maximum bid is XXX, instead of X.XX!!!!

I contacted the seller immediately (just minutes ago). But since I know that there are true eBay-vets here, I'd like to know what are the possibilities to correct the situation? Any possibility for seller to delete my bid and let me enter a new one...or is there a way to correct my max bid, via ebay possibly?

you can try contacting the ebay staff, I'd use the live chat thing they have, if someone's there now and explain to them the situation. Though from a previous dispute with them, they are incompetent and if you are within x amount of minutes, you can retract the bid yourself, but from what it sounds like, it's a tad too late for you. Wait for the seller and see if he understands and sends it to the second offer, or if he agrees for a withdrawel, he can click the cancel bid, before the auction ends. if it has ended, he can file a dispute for non payment, and he can get refunded for the costs of listing and can relist it of course, it all really depends on the seller.

I would try bid retraction as long as the listing hasnt ended. You can retract bids anytime up until the last 12 hours of the listing I think and any retraction in that last 12 hours must be done withion a certain time period of placing the bid.
