I believe this is a retained lamination. Not sure on value. Probably not big money but way cool. I'm always hoping to find one like that.

There is a line that starts at the "B" in "EPU" runs through the N" and "E" through the wheat to the rim. This could be "lamination". What ever it is that is over the "E" most likely got there after the coin was minted because it covers the top of he "E".

I agree with retained lamination peel. What caught my eyes is the staples around the holder.

Here is a link to Mr. Diamond's Site depicting some laminations and retained laminations. The last picture is very extreme. This link may be of some help.

This is funny because I was so focused on the coin I never noticed the Fort Knox staple pattern.

WHY? Do you not realize that you risk damaging the coin if you ever take it out? Or that those staples could pierce through the plastic window of another flip scratching the coin it holds?

I keep all my 2x2 coins in boxes with the same 2x2s in them. Meaning I dont mix quarter and penny 2x2 I have a box with only quarter sized 2x2s so no rubbing occurs

Every time you take one of the 2X2 out of the box you risk the sharp point of a staple piercing and scratching the coin in the 2X2 next to it. The more staples the more chances for this to happen. Not to mention how much more likely you will damage the coin when trying to remove it from the 2X2. I use three staples on my 2X2. One on each open side halfway between the coin and the edge of the 2X2. I do not put one on the side where the fold is. This method allows for a nice clear surface to write the description on with no staple in the way. If I am removing the coin from the 2X2, I simple cut the cardboard across the 2X2 on the folded side and slip the coin out through the opening I just created. This minimizes the chances of a coin coming n contact with a staple. Besides that, with my method I use less than half what you use which will save me money on staples.
