I just got a group of higher grade circ. Buffaloes and was thrilled to find this in the lot. Apparently severe die clashing and subsequent polishing have wiped out most of the designers initial and the 3rd feather. I would attribute this as FS-016.3 although it is the weak initial variety. I would also consider it to be a 2 1/2 feather variety but this is not mentioned in the CherryPickers Guide. The loss of detail from polishing makes it look like a VF-XF coin but it is really an AU perhaps even a 53 or 55.

I recently had a No F, about the same grade. Doesn't CherryPickers Guide make a comment about the weak F as well? I knew nothing of the 2 1/2 feather variety. Thanks for sharing!

My CherryPickers' Guide (Third Edition) says "There are some varieties with a partially missing or weak initial, but these do not command the premium of this variety, with no trace showing." Unfortunately the picture in the guide is a close-up of the date and does not show the feathers at all.
