Does anyone have pictures of these? All I can find is second-hand information from newspapers but no pictures of the actual coins.

The Central Bank of Myanmar does not list any new designs to their coinage since 2000:

Maybe they are still minting the design started in 2000?

Wikipedia mentions the announcements of new coins in the newspapers and describes the proposed designs, but does not give any indication that any such coins actually were issued. It may be a situation similar to that of the Ukrainian grivny coins, which were struck and then stored for several years until the inflation died down enough to make the use of coins viable once more. Or perhaps inflation rendered the coins worthless even before they started making them, so the project was quietly cancelled. 100 kyat is worth slightly more than 1 US cent at current unofficial exchange rates.

Thanks - A friend of mine says that he received a new type of coin (and not of the 1999 set) when he visited Myanmar round 2010 - However he's not a coin collector and gave it to a beggar. Well for all I know it may have been something else than the proposed 2008 coins but a picture might have solved the mystery.
