OK, I think I am ready to get serious into collecting pennies. I did a couple of google searches like penny collection book or coin collection book, so I cna buy one and stick my coins in them. I did not find anything relevant or found some with some coins filled. I want a new or used book that is in good connection so I can start fresh on a penny book collection. Anyone know of where I could buy one? Thanks!

You need to be more specific. There's a whole range of albums in different prices, for different purposes and with different degrees of protection.

If your speaking of the cardboard folder albums such as Whitman or Littleton's you can probably find them at Barnes and Nobles. They don't offer the best protection for coins. They're okay, I suppose, for inexpensive coins. Or for nostalgic purposes.

I actually picked up a cent book that I believe is the Mint's book. It is red, white, and blue, and is very much like the Whitman album. Bought it from Barnes and Noble. I like it, and I think the protection is very good. JPs corner will definitely help you out.

www.collectorssupplyhouse.com

www.unitradeassoc.com

are the two I use. The first one even has free shipping for orders over a certain amount. (I think it's only $40 for the US).

I am looking for one for the dates after 1940, I don't see much luck getting my hands on pre 1940 coins. Oldest penny I have is 1938

I'm looking for an album myself. I'm working on lincolns right now and almost everything after 1970 is MS65+ (not slabbed) and I want to show them off but protect them at the same time.

I'm looking at either the Whitman or Dansco albums. Has anyone tried both of these and have a preference?

Thanks,

I would suggest using 2X2 holders (At Least) for you MS coins.

My suggestion is check if there are any coin shows in your area prior to purchasing any coin folders or albums. At most coin shows such things are cheaper than any mail order organizations, no postage, handling, shipping fees also. You can usually find coin shows by checking the listings on the Coin World web site or jsut go to Google or Yahoo and type in coin shows and the state you live in or if near a border, type in both states. At all the coin shows I go to there are always dealers selling both new and used albums and folders. As for preferences to which is best, that is like asking which car, which breakfast cereal, which auto tire is best. To each their own. At almost all coin shows in the past I always saw Whitman products. Lately all I see is Dansco. Myself, I have been using Whitman for about 50 years now and to old to change. Whatever you do, do NOT use the so called folders unless you don't care about the coins. Check out a few and notice the rear of the slots for coins and you will usually see a shinny surface. It is glue to help hold in coins that may fall out. This is not the greatest thing for your coins though. One nice thing about the Whitman Albums for Cents is the Blue color makes the cents stand out more. Dansco is a brownish color and so are most of the cents so they don't stand out for that denomination. Also, I've added pages available from Whitman to make my cent albums go from 1909 to present with room to spare just in case I live a few more hundred years or so.
