My question is how can one tell a difference between silver and clad State and America The Beautiful S mint proof quarters? Are the clad copper reeded edges visible? Silver proofs being silver reeded edges? I want to be sure the silver proofs I am buying are not switched to clad as I am new to coins. Thanks!

Yes the copper is visible on the clads plus the weight is different for each.

If you cannot see the edge, you can use the tissue test to determine silver from clad.
