What is the average grade of quarters in mint bags and rolls for quarters? I'm a long-time collector, but I've never quite got the hang of grading.

Is there a difference between the bags and the rolls? Since coins move around in bags quite a bit, I was thinking maybe rolls would be higher?

Ive never gotten a bad myself, but I could see it both being better and worse. The coins do move around more and get more bag marks (hence the term) in the bags so the average grade may not be great, but with the added volume you probably have a better chance of getting a couple gems then you would with the rolls.

I am not good at grading either and I mostly do cents but it seems the average grade is around MS63-64,IMHO.

depends on the year, the mint, the state of the dies used for the coins in the bags, the denomination- myriad factors. look at the TPG pop reports and realize that most of those coins were submitted because the submitter thought they were nice- then lower that average grade by a point or two and you will have the typical coin in a bag or roll.

I know this may be difficult to answer but what makes the difference between a 67, 68, 69? I've seen some pretty awesome quarters from the rolls that look almost proof like but they may have a slight nick somewhere...I wonder how those would rate? Also, it seems like a lot of the rolled coins have banged up edges which probably depreciates them.
