Hello,

I saw this ad on CL and wanted get some feedback from everyone insofar as the proper identification, verifiable authenticity and probable resale value etc.:

http://louisville.craigslist.org/cl...2180711.html

This person has several items listed on the same ad but I am most interested in the top light Cu-colored quarter.

If authentic, is the copper-colored quarter considered a lamination error?

I also attached a clip of pricing for a clad Washington quarter from http://www.bestcoin.com:

Any comments about any of these items, however, are welcomed.

gracias,
mdpmedia

Sorry, I wouldn't trust it. The one sided clad could just be environmental damage. I've picked up coins out of the dirt that had that coloration. But it is hard to tell without better pictures or weight of the coin. The other quarter just looks badly damaged. The stuff he will "throw in" for $50 more, is not worth near that in my opinion. $10-$15 tops.

Without clear photos of both sides and edge view + the exact weight, I wouldn't go near the so-called missing clad layer Quarter, and where he/she gets the idea that it is valued at $500.00 leaves a lot to be desired..

IMO the value for a non damaged missing clad layer would be between $50 & $75 tops.

The first quarter might be missing a clad layer but the pictures are less than desirable and no weight is listed. The dark grey quarter almost certainly has environmental damage and the whole lot is overvalued by about 10-15x.

Clad coinage can also aquire this look by being mixed in with old corroded copper coinage and being stored this way.I believe this is called sintering.
I took a quick photo of this after scraping with a pocket knife.
Notice the clading underneath .
