Today I received some junk mail from PCS Stamps & Coins. They're offering uncirculated Morgans. The pitch begins with this overinflated copy on glossy heavy stock: "Against all odds, PCS has uncovered a limited supply of genuine uncirculated Morgan dollars..." ... "Seize the moment by returning your Official Reservation Certificate within 14 days..." ... " Morgan silver dollars grow scarcer with each passing day, so we must hear from you soon."

So you're not actually buying the coins, you're reserving them. But so what. The copy continues, "This is a rare opportunity to own 15 of these coveted coins, all more than 110 years old and in prized uncirculated condition." In addition, you get the coins mounted in "collector panels" along with mint-condition postage stamps (the 1994 "Legends of the West" series), as well as some other nostalgia.

I hunted in vain for the price, as it was not evident. Finally, I found it: 15 uncirculated Morgans for $90 for $4.95 shipping.

So. Once you get through all the hype, glitz, and silliness, it actually sounds like an incredible deal: 15 uncirculated Morgans for $6 each. I hunted for a catch and could not find one.

Anyone care to comment?

Looks like they've upped their price by $5/coin since they last made this offer 6 months ago:

Ahhhhh... yes. Here's the incriminating sentence: "Only your quick response will secure the complete 15-coin collection at $90 plus shipping and service (line break) per Panel...

And of course it's one coin per panel.

Oh, well. Not as much of a scam as I thought it might have been. I just didn't read the sentence to the end.

It's not a scam at all, just a bad deal.

Yes. (And I imagine that "uncirculated" is a fairly loose term.)

genuine uncirculated Morgan dollars...

Uncirculated since 1964, not uncirculated as in new and never used in commerce. A mere technicality, but hey, they aren't targeting buyers who know better since those that do will just throw their junk mail where it belongs.
