This is the second coin I have bought so far from the Roman era of Alexandria, Egypt.
Antoninus Pius
AE33 Drachm
Ob: Laureate bust facing to the right.
Rv: Horse, prancing to the right, Agathodaemon above.
Weight: 17.72 gm
Diameter: 33 x 33 x 2.5 mm
Die axis: 0°
Mint: Alexandria, 138 A D
The only example I could find online was from here:
http://www.ioffer.com/i/antoninus-p...in-507134329As per usual, a lot of
info on the emperor, what is a Agathodaemon but no info on a reference number, neither Köln, BMC, Emmett or Dattari.
Antoninus had other similar issues from Alexandria with a "bust above a beast" theme:
"AE33 Kronos bust, right, above Capricorn, right" Köln 1504; Dattari 2973
"AE33 Venus bust, left, above Taurus, left" Köln 1492-3; Dattari 2960
"AE31 Selene bust, right, above a cresent, above Cancer" Köln 1494; Dattari 2963
"AE Ammon bust, right, above Aries, right" BMC 679; Milne 2152
