Hello,
I have not long ago found this site and really hope someone could give me a few tips on the best settings to use when scanning coins. I have a few coins with really beautiful toning that ranges from rainbow to something I don't even know what to call?
The coins really are beautiful to look at but the scans really do not show it, in fact they look terrible.
I'm not sure how to add a picture to this yet but when I work it out I will.
thanks, Kerrys girl

It's typically very hard to get scans to show up rainbow toning or lustre. Experienced people can pick up lustre in scans but it's not shiny as shown in a photo. The scanner has the tendency to flatten an image and make things appear a bit dull. Rainbow toning can be hard to show even using a regular camera, you need to move the lighting around until the correct reflections are thrown into the camera lens. Often people take several images with lighting in difference positions to give an idea of how the toning changes.

Lovely looking penny btw. If you but the Help-With-Scan-Settings-For-Australian-Pre-Decimal-Coins around your links in posts they will show up as images in the post rather than having to click on them.
