Hi

Firstly to apologize:
I would post this in the auction sub forum but they don't allow you to post without having over 100 posts and I don't want to go write 100 nonsense posts just to get to be able to write in the auction subforum.

I have an 1827 Penny which looks nice on the bust side with the date but a bit worn on the Britannia side.

I am contemplating to sell it on ebay but obviously if I put it for 0.99p and it sells for this amount I would be gutted (just sold a scarce Anglesey mines Half Penny for next to nothing and don't want this to happen again).

So I am wondering what is a realistic start price? It is a more scarce Penny after all.

The 1827's are much more easy to find in Australia than the UK. Even so, the 1826's are much more common in Australia than the 1827's.
All of the 1827 issue ended up Tasmania.
All saw heavy circulation in Oz., the 1827 is quite rare in top condition, and can bring a big price at auction, in either the UK or Oz.

I was fortunate enough to get a '27 in Fine, in Sydney, from a dealer's junk box, but that was decades ago.

You need 250 quality posts to sell here in the CCF, so ebay may be the way to go for you.

If it was me, I would keep it. Once you sell it, it's gone. I guess that they don't turn up all that often in the UK.
Because of the prices that the '27 can command in the UK, it seems that what remains of the original issue is gradually finding it's way back to the UK.

Interestingly I did get that one from a so called junk box too!:)

Tasmania, interesting, how come there?

I did notice that the Australian pennies eg. 1925 seem to go go for more in Australia and for less in the UK.

Might keep it as I don't know when I would be able to get a hold of another one.

I did post a 1869 Victorian Penny on ebay for £20 and it got a bid quickly, I am quite amazed by that as the mintage of that year is so high and they sell even if they are fine or much less than fine, did they end up all in Tasmania aswell or why are those more thought after?

Ignore mintages to a certain extent. The nr quoted for 1869 may have actually been dated 1868.1869 dated coins are rare.
