Hi there,

I am looking for an answer about gold NCLT from the Royal Canadian Mint as for collecting and uniqueness so I don't want to hear about silver itself (sorry people).

I need to keep my Master Club status and I'm looking at 2 coins put aside from the mint. The first is the War of 1812 gold piece and the other is the newest release of the Arctic Fox in gold.

Anyone who can contribute to this thread would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for any feedback.

Looking for some advice on the gold arctic fox too. Though for me, it was either the gold fox or the gold O Canada subscription.
Rest in Peace

The best advice, if you're buying as an investment, then you need to be looking at Gold Maple Leafs (GMLs). If you're looking for your collection, you just have to go with what you think you will like. After a few years, the bullion value (BV) could either make your collection worth more, or less (depending if gold prices have risen or fallen). It is rare to see NCLT GOLD coins appreciate much beyond their list price - or BV

So, in the end, you need to do a calculation based on price vs bullion vs mintages OR which you like better - They are both beautiful coins, however, IMHO, I like the Arctic Fox the most.

if you are interested in gold coins for the worth of the bullion, I would recommend the 1/10, 1/20, or 1/4 ounce maple leaf coins.these can be purchased for usually less than 10% over spot. whereas the mint coins are all highly over spot price sometimes 50% or more.less money spent on premiums = more gold in you collection..imho.

I'm looking for unique gold coins and not bullion. I'm not telling people who are looking for unique silver coins to invest in Maple Leafs or Libertads. I'm looking to expand my collection and I was looking at either at the gold arctic fox or the War of 1812 gold piece.

Thanks for the inputs. It's true that the mint gold coins have really high premiums... I just recently started to collect RCM coins, and can pretty much attribute this new found hobby to the $20 for $20's. Anyway, thanks again for the inputs. Think I'll just stick with silver RCM coins.

@jsinger21

The "War of 1812" coin has more powerful, sharp and clear design, also it has commemorating mean, but together with this, by the way that coin designed - it much more closer to bullion issue.

While "Arctic fox" has artistic design, the fox itself not so detailed, but looks good.

If you want to expand collection and will continue to expand in gold - probably, the "2013 Arctic Fox" will be the better choice, because the coin is a part of series and not a single edition.

Tough choice between the two. I wish I had the money to buy both. I wonder how long before the arctic fox in gold is sold. I checked the inventory on the mint website and over 50% sold. The War of 1812 gold piece sold out but after how much time?

I bought the 1914 $10 gold coin from BoC hoard because of the sentimental value. But for anything golden, I personally will go for maple leafs.
As Dcadon mentioned, nclt gold coins doesn't seem to appreciate much over bv.

If it were my money I would be buying the 1913 or 1914 $10 HS. On top of being great coins they are great historical pieces and not priced too much over spot compared to the others that you had mentioned. If you have your heart set on one of those two then I would probably go with the "War of 1812" because it will appeal to more collectors (IMO). As for the fox, it will probably be a nice coin as well (the silver version is incredible), but on a small gold coin I just don't think it will be quite as nice.
