Hello:

I think this is probably Medieval but thought I would try it out here. The obverse? seems to be a knight perhaps in helmet and robes. Reverse? may be a face not sure, not much detail at this point. It is quite thin which makes me think it is medieval. Piece is approx 23mm x 18mm. 1.3 grams. This is scanned, hard to photograph.

SEE PICS FURTHER DOWN.....

Might be a Byzantine Trachy.

The robes on mine seem a little more elaborate. But I think you have steered me in the right direction!

Thank you,
Steve

Does look Byzantine, it's either broken or a reduced size Trachy from the Latin rulers period 1204-1261.

Yes, it seems to be a broken Byzantine. I have found a great reference here..

http://www.orthodoxcoins.com/books/...ro-chap6.pdf

I've managed to clean it up a bit more on both sides and believe it may? be a ISAAC COMNENUS OF CYPRUS
(1184 - - " 1191). A little more cleaning may reveal more.

Here are some more pics...

Maybe:
AE Trachy
Ob: Bust of Christ, beardless, holding scroll.
Rv: Michael VIII, standing, holding Labarum-headed sceptre, and globus surmounted by patriarchal cross.

However, the reverse looks more like "the Virgin, Orans (praying with her arms raised up)".
