Hi I found this roll hunting and was just wondering if this is an error or if it was made this way by a person? The back and sides are fine but the front looks melted. Is there any value in it? I'm keeping it either way!! Thanks all

It was struck through an obverse die cap. It looks like the die that was capped also had some large die cracks which would have helped a coin/planchet adhere to the die and create this error. Its a nice example, especially from a roll. It looks copper, can you tell the date? Possibly 1972?

Strikethrough. Nice. I agree with ErrorCoins222. Looks like 1972 D or S.

Next time you show coins, please remove them from the 2x2. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the CCF.

I do seem to detect some of the pillars of the Memorial in the center of the obverse face. If so, this would best be characterized as a late-stage brockage instead of a generic capped die strike. I see no evidence of underlying die cracks. The low, sinuous ridges on the obverse are probably just wrinkles in the floor of the cap.

I second this. I always read what Mr. Diamond has to say. He's this forums E.F. Hutton. Because when he talks, people listen.

Anybody else get my dated reference?
