Miggs, Of course they are. When I was in the Marine Corps, I went through a lot of network security courses (I am was and am a Network Engineer), and one of the first questions they asked was
"Who thinks we get hacked by almost every country every day?"
*a few hands go up*
"Well, we do, even Canada. Who thinks we do the same back to everyone else every day?"
*A couple more hands*
"Well we do, even canada"
I'm not saying it isn't happening, I'm saying there is TONS we do to prevent it. Just because you don't know about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.
Also, just because you read it on the internet, doesn't make it true.

Quote: That started long before Bush That's true but "Over 2.2 million jobs were lost due to outsourcing during the first three years of the bush administration" Quote: Theres some benefits to it since it keeps cost of goods down and really the cost of production is just to high in the USA for most things. No other country would buy them at the prices that have to be charged compared to what they cost elsewhere. Well you're quite the cheerleader, do you really live in the US? How many fellow citizens on food stamps nowadays?

Quote: You're not telling us you'd rather put any weight of believability to such greats as CNN or FOX lol? Well of course not. The Onion and duffelblog are more reputable. I just was pointing out that too many people just read stuff on the internet and swallow it as unbiased fact.

I don't know how to fact-check this, but someone much smarter than I am told me the Chinese are NOT buying our debt anymore, and that the US Government is buying it's own debt offerings.
If that is true, (a BIG if), then you have to admit the "China will always buy our debt" premise is flawed. And with our own government pulling a flim-flam on us, we're screwed.
I think that is the core of my resistance to the "everything is going to be okay" sentiment I read here. I know this guy pretty well, and trust him. That makes it hard to dissuade me here, but I still am hooked on this thread because it makes me keep thinking and challenging my suppositions.

As for stealing secrets, (which has been going on since the beginning of time), let me also toss in the ring that the US rocket programs and NASA space program benefitted greatly from grabbing many scientists from Nazi Germany.

Quote: That's true but "Over 2.2 million jobs were lost due to outsourcing during the first three years of the bush administration"
Which is completely irrelevant. It had been going on for the better part of the decade when he took office and Clinton did the deregulation Bush continued it. Quote: Well you're quite the cheerleader, do you really live in the US? How many fellow citizens on food stamps nowadays? Its the reality of a global world. The cost of business is to high in the US for unskilled labor that anyone can do. Between the highest business taxes in the world, the EPA driving up the cost and then unions who would rather see the company go under than make a concession like hostess its so much cheaper to move the jobs they do no question. Unionized low skilled labor is going to be the savior of the US economy. Profit and businesses have to stop being demonized for making money so they start expanding again creating more jobs instead of sitting on billions and billions from uncertainty. The health care costs have cause countless jobs to be lost where that money now goes to existing employees bills instead of new ones. If you require companies to provide packages worth upwards of 80k in benefits and pay for the most basic of jobs its not a shock you see those dry up. Pretending like its not a reality wont address the problem. The days of the US being a cheap manufacturing powerhouse are over though. Skilled labor is a different story but dont expect to see all those things that cost 5 dollars or less return to US jobs

Quote: Clinton did the deregulation Bush continued it. 2 wrongs doesn't make a right. When Clinton killed Glass-Steagall "it permitted Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors' money that was held in affiliated commercial banks" ...and the derivatives... Lyndon LaRouche goes on and on about this. Its just goes to show you, Republicans.Democrats there's absolutely no difference, 2 heads of the same creature

Quote: Its the reality of a global world Sad but true (as Metallica would say) I don't think America needed to deindustrialize has it did, call me conspiracist but I think it was done by design. And the gun grabbing is related to this.

In hindsight some protections probably should have been put in, we would have dug out of that by now though if we just stayed out of the way Quote: I don't think America needed to deindustrialize has it did, It could have been slowed with some proactive measures to offset the added cost of paying American wages, but for the low end and unskilled manufacturing once the world went global it was pretty much inevitable. Theres just always going to be somewhere that can do that for pennies on the dollar that you really cant compete with

Quote: Try and defend that. I'm not defending anything or anyone. I'm simply pointing out the inconsistencies and obvious bias. You seem to be a rather combative person. I do not wish to engage in a heated argument, only a calm, rational discussion. Thank you for your understanding.
