Not sure why some get upset or take it personal when I point out whats wrong and right.
To begin with, its certainly not personal. I think I have said many times that if I have offended anyone, that certainly hasn't been my goal or objective. I have said many times I am sorry if anyone has felt that way.
When I point out something that's wrong, I am doing it not because I want you to feel that you know less or I want to put you down, but rather I want to make sure that there isn't any misinformation and that you can see where you are wrong and why. I am trying to offer you a clearer picture about whats going on, attempting to help demystify the markets and how they work.
I may disagree with you. However, that doesn't mean that I dislike you. It doesn't mean I am outright against PMs. It doesn't mean I feel I am better than you. I have said many times, I am your fellow coin collector. If any of you needed other helpful advice and I could help you out, I most certainly would be looking out for your best interests.
I realize my message is not a popular one. I realize that some may think what I am saying is not valid. But is there any harm done in presenting a view of how the markets operate and filtering that down to help others? I lurked for a while but decided I wanted to contribute, there was too much confusion and I hated to see folks buying and then the price dropping even further on them. I just hated that. Thats what motivated me to contribute.
So, look. Again, if you guys have thought I was putting you down, I am sorry but that has not been the objective. The goal,my goal, is to sort out the confusion in regards to what happens with price. I have made every effort to present the various scenarios. If you look at my first posting, one of the points I highlighted and several times afterwards was the fact that this is a long process that will take time.
When silver and gold have decided that they are done acting broken and are starting to act like they want out of this downtrend, I will be pointing that out.
What I want is everyone to benefit equally, to avoid getting burned. Like I said, I love you all, even if you disagree with me. We all have a common interest here, our interest in the PMs. I dont take anything personal that you may say of me.

For me, I appreciate the daily news on price action from yup
The only thing I could do without is the paternalistic talk of when I should or shouldn't buy. Most of us (except yup of course) believe the markets are contrived and the PM market is no exception.
I'm done buying gold but silver is different. It's my opinion (and mine only) that silver is undervalued (and by far) for a multiple of reasons. So for me, it doesn't matter if it's at $18 or $30, I buy when I can.
I enjoy shopping for it, receiving it, stacking it and collecting it because I'd rather have that, than fiat dollars in the bank and much less on a computer screen.
So no need to continue bashing yup because nobody will change his mind and/or mindset. Maybe one day the blind man will say "I can see". Let's hope it won't be too late by then...

Agree with Doug. Written words always come off harsher and someone's you just need to ignore the delivery and just pick out the message.
The thing about trends are is you can kind of make them appear just by picking your time frame. If you do a comparison 10 years ago it's up, 2 years it's way down. Like mentioned it's been sliding for a while though and the gains usually disappear in a short time. The gain in the last few weeks isn't really enough in such a short time to think anythings changed, it's still in that day to day variation range.

I agree, text comes off different so you have to be careful. I was merely trying to suggest that it could be gone about differently.
In any case, I like to hear the different opinions because like others pointed out, the "trend" depends on the timeframe you pick.
And for me, the lower silver goes the more I can get. I also buy and sell so the movement doesn't bother me. It's mostly short term buys for reselling. If the price goes lower my personal collection would probably get a nice boost on common date silver's like mercs, walkers, and so on.

Yes they do but that's a reason think through what is written. There are a few posters that used to be reg posters on these boards that aren't here anymore. EdB and someone with farm in the name. Just miss some of them

Well, I appreciate yup's analyses. Yup has saved me some bucks and many headaches! I'm a lot more careful how I approach a purchase these days. Lower prices are welcome for the time being, but anything can happen, The market is so unpredictable! Just look at Bitcoins. Who would have thought Bitcoins would be such a huge success?!  Charts, trends, and price action makes this hobby more interesting. Any advice is welcome...  |

Bitcoins are also incredibly unstable, considering that last time they hit $200, the biggest global exchange for them literally broke under the strain of incoming transactions... which dumped them all the way down to $150. The community is also a worrying mixture of the "gold has inherent value" people and "value is completely relative" people, temporarily unified in their hatred of the fiat.

I just watch the movie World War Z w/ Brat Pitt and in there, the portion saying about Jerusalem and how they have managed to well prepared for the trouble: The 10th man rule (if all 9 agree the the 10th person have to find way to disagree and dig deeper).
So, if we all agree on this subject matter then PM would be either up-up-and beyond or down-down-to the ground. Contrariant is good as long as we are keeping the discussion civilize and don't take things personal.
Personally, I found yup insight and insistence on us not going all in at buying PM is a good thing - it does help me and save some $$$. I understand that most of us don't major in Communication and very fews can say that they are great communicator (I don't) - however, no body like to called wrong again and again (even if it's the true). We all have our pride and stubbornness.

The thing about Bitcoins... is kind of interesting. I read an article the other day about a guy who bought 5,000 Bitcoins several years ago while he was writing a thesis in college on them. He paid something like $25 for the coins... and had them stashed away and totally forgot about them. He recently stumbled across them again and found he had over $800,000 now... or I suppose you could open a safe full of gold coins that was sold to the junkman...

GOOD on you Yup for sticking to your guns, I am certain there is NO financial gain for you personally in giving your advice or thoughts on the PM market. I may or may not agree with you but the personal attacks you have suffered over the past few weeks I DO personally find offensive. This after all IS yup's thread and good debate is always healthy , But Sniping and innuendoes 'from "Cyber Space" are in bad form IMHO . If you don't agree with the Bloke simply walk away, Throwing stones from an unnamed keyboard is simply Cowardly in my view  |

Well again, my intentions have NOT ever been to put anyone down. I want to help, I want to educate and I want as many people as possible to get the best bang for their bucks if they buy. If its come across like I am saying you are wrong to make you feel bad, I am sorry but that hasnt been my intention. Rather, I want to highlight not that you are personally wrong but the reason why you are.
I also want to repeat myself and state that I am not beating my drum about the downtrend because I want to be contrary. Rather, this is the primary, overall trend. Its down, simple as that. Until it proves itself, all counter trend moves should be suspect and must prove that they want, can and will hold above the downtrend.
In fact, to me, I am not looking to be personally "right",,, I want the market to decide whether I am right or wrong. My years of experience at a desk has taught me to pay attention to the price action over what I may feel or think. When I do that, then I am right by the market, which is the one I want to be right by, that the market shows me the way and I follow.
So thank you for everyone's understanding and kind comments. I am your fellow hobbyist and I am pitching in to contribute with what I know and if I can keep some folks from either buying at the wrong time or at least being selective as they buy, then to me thats the greatest reward.

I want to say I have been following your thread for the last couple of months, and I have took your advice on not buying silver and feel that you know what you are talking about.
I have learned a lot from your posts, keep them coming.
Will be buying in the teens.

thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it. I am here to help, to make sense of PM prices. I know it may sound repetitive, may sound like I repeat myself and that nothing is happening.
But the whole objective is to be educational. To show that by simply following price, we can get an idea of what is happening and take the mystery of where prices could be heading. We can take the guess work out. We certainly can spot when we should be in and also out of the market
So thank you again for your kind words and I gladly and freely will continue to support this forum.

I firmly agree with Trout and cderksen..........yup created this thread, and I have been following it for months now. I enjoy it a lot, and have learned from it. If someone feels offended by his observations, then perhaps they are a bit too thin-skinned and should refrain from reading them. As for me, I appreciate his posts and hope that he will continue to provide them............
