If not now, when? Are you waiting for it to go up, or down?
Me, I buy stuff when it is on sale, and I think silver is on sale, all things considered.

IF gold breaks 1300,,, look out below. For Silver, the more it stays under 20, the harder it will be for it to get over it.,....
not ideal investing conditions and wiser to let things settle before buying anything.

Well,, targets of 1400 are now in the rear view mirror lol So much for those who early on were saying it would happen. This is why we take level by level ALWAYS. We came very short of 1400 on gold and as we lose 1300 look for more lower unless these fades stop.
AT the end, it did look to me that would be the next progression, but theres no way in the early stages would I have said 1400 is the target. In fact, exact price targets are nothing but wild guesses.

Here is a run down of the current and projected National Federal Debt.
Year ........$ Trillion 2007 14.480 2008 14.720 2009 14.417 2010 14.958 2011 15.533 2012 16.244 2013 16.797 2014 17.332 2015 18.219 2016 19.180 2017 20.199
Projected USA population in 2017 is 326,348,000. That's $61,894 of debt for every man, woman and child. You don't have to be a vampire to live long enough to feel the consequences of this one. The only way out now to solve the problem is by devaluating the dollar. When this happens you want your equity in hard usable assets (Land, Real-estate ect), and Gold-Silver (PM's preferred).
Yup, your looking at branches. I'm looking at the forest.

So isn't the sale of gold/silver taxed as capital gains with a higher rate? I just read about Bitcoins being taxed as property thus a capital gain and a reference to this happening to gold. I'm confused since I already thought that was the case. Thanks

Quote: The only way out now to solve the problem is by devaluating the dollar. Thats really not true. Theres no rules of economics, they are whatever you say they are. If you loan someone 100 bucks and never ask for it back it doesn't matter, just as if you loan someone a single dollar and constantly act for it back it does matter. As long as our military is the worlds dominate force and we remain the biggest buyer of everything it really doesn't matter for our life time or really even the next generation. 150 200 years from now it could matter, but not right now. Again the US dollar failing crashes the world economy, not going to happen. Everyone would just say start fresh with no debt before sending the world into chaos out of spite sacrificing their power and well being at the same time.

According to IRS.gov, the document "Topic 409 - Capital Gains and Losses" mentions that "collectibles" have a max capital gains rate of 28%. I'm not a tax guy and I'm certainly not qualified to provide tax advice, but I believe "collectibles" includes coins. Danester said Quote: Projected USA population in 2017 is 326,348,000. Willful ignorance, greed, and the quest for power are leading us toward yet more "interesting times." Still, we gotta be smart about how we play the cards we're dealt. Yup's information is timely and useful, though. There's still gonna be times to buy... and to sell.

Dan-
the thing is this- deficits dont matter, budgets dont matter to the US. Its all noise. Why not?
Because EVERYONE on this planet WANTS, DESIRES and COVETS the debt the USA sells. They GLADLY play for it. So that means China, Japan, RUSSIA, EVERYONE wants it and buys it.
But it gets even better! ALL these countries cannot just say "thats it, I dont want it". Nor can they just turn around and dump. Why not? Because they hold such massive amounts of US debt, any major liquidation they do will impact their holdings and would be devastating.
So thats the dirty little secret. All world governments will buy US debt because its a great place to park their money. Why? Because as Basebal21 has said, only the US has the worlds dominate and number one military might, no other country has it and no other country will ever catch up. That might guarantees the safety of buying US debt. Its also like a dogs chasing its tail,,, they cant dump it, because it would impact their holdings but at the same time, they like to park their money in US debt.
Finally, I am not sure if you have noticed, but the US dollar has not been as of late being devalued. In fact, if anything, it will climb. Yes, I said climb.
The USD, just like US debt, will also ALWAYS be bought. Even the Russians are sitting on something like the worlds 4th largest dollar reserves.
So, in the end US debt, is not an issue. Nor is the dollar looking at imploding. Gold and silver will not act as the hedge you think they will.

Quote: The USD, just like US debt, will also ALWAYS be bought. Nothing lasts forever. World history is made up of the rise and fall of nations, empires and civilizations. The major world powers of a few centuries ago are no longer center stage players, the pre-WWII Axis powers are history and even the post-WWII major powers have been changing their positions. US debt ALWAYS being bought has just about zero likelihood in any realistic long-term historical perspective.. I don't believe using absolute words like always and never in market predictions is a good basis for solidly grounded predictions.

Hey it ALWAYS will be bought. No one is going to replace the USA.... no one.
US Debt will ALWAYS be bought. USD will ALWAYS be bought. Since the founding of this country, the debt of this country has always been sold and bought, and highly sought after by world markets, IE other foreign governments.
This is NOT going to change.

and yes Coinwatch is right, your gold and silver coins, when you sell them , you pay 28% tax. Not really a great deal either, there are many other ways to tap into gold and silver without paying such high taxes.

Quote: Hey it ALWAYS will be bought. No one is going to replace the USA.... no one. US Debt will ALWAYS be bought. USD will ALWAYS be bought. I believe your view is short-sighted. I'm sure the ancient Assyrians and Hittites, the ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman empires in turn all felt they were the very center of the entire universe and that nothing could ever upset their domination of the known world. The US is presently the dominant superpower on the global stage, but thinking that will be the case for the remainder of all time just isn't realistic. The US replaced the powers that dominated the world before us and the lessons of history tell us that someday, some other power will take over the #1 position from us---however inconceivable that may seem today. Nothing is permanent.

and.. that is your opinion. Just as I am of the opinion, and yes, a very STRONG one, that the USA is the only dominant world superpower and there will be no other world super power to take its place.
I will never change that opinion, because there is no other country in this world that can do what the USA does or has.
they are the only dominant world super power, the entire world will continue to buy US T-bills ( which is packaged as debt) and they will continue to purchase USD. Furthermore, no other country will ever pass up the military might of the United States.
This being the case, gold and silver will never be the top flight to safety assets. Those will always be the USD and US bonds.

Quote: Nothing is permanent. True but it is for now. The timeline for that to be able to change isn't in our life times. The global economy is a game changer that the world hadnt seen before with multiple countries economy being based largely on selling us things. There just isn't the isolation in the economies like before where a global power could fall and the rest of the world goes on like nothing happened. Plus the "empire" is no longer based on colonization where uprising can bring a down fall. Only an uprising in the US could do that now unlike the British or Spanish or Romans ect who had to keep huge areas of land under control. Military spending cuts can lead to this all changing down the road if we keep going down that path but its going to be a slow change barring an act of god like a massive natural disaster or a civil war/nuclear war.
