I hope so. I held off on some rolls of ASE's and would like a chance at them.

One must learn to find that low point, and 18 bucks per oz. was that low point. If one really believed it was going back up they should have went all in around that 18 to 19 range on silver, or any of the other three when they were at their bottom levels....

i can't believe there is not more headaches on here from all the ups and down of silver,i should sell I should buy, if you are truely in it to make money you should be doing it on paper, then you don't have the premiums that you have on coins or bullion, if any of us bought at 19 and paid a 4+ premium on ASE's then you are at just break even now..everyone needs to take a deep breath.. if you are in this for the long haul 5-10 years then you should be dollar cost averaging anyway, don't sweat the ups and downs because they will always be there, and if you are buying silver on credit hoping to hit it big, stop doing that .. and just one point for YUP,, you call the upward movement a retracing, not a bull move, so when silver continued to go down was that not a retracing as well not a bear movement?

Quote: you call the upward movement a retracing, not a bull move, so when silver continued to go down was that not a retracing as well not a bear movement? At first it was but it happened over such a long period of time that it became the price direction. Right now we have a a couple weeks going up, if its still doing that a few months from now and approaching old highs then Id say its turned around. The time frame right now is just to short to call it a turn around, especially since its still significantly down from where the free fall started. For me the shorter the time the more drastic the movement would need to be. Just like with stocks even ones that are gaining or losing overall for the year will have periods of ups and downs. I can think of one that spent around 2 or 3 months climbing from 13 to 16 then on one of the bad stock weeks in a matter of about 2 days basically lost all of that gain.

I would say a turnaround happens before reaching old highs. To say silver has not turned around until $50 an oz would not be accurate. To say the stock market turned around this summer because it hit new highs would be off. The turn around happens much sooner then that.

It doesn't have to hit 50 but last year had a high of 37ish the year before had a high of 44ish, this year a high of 32ish which its not even remotely sniffing. Regardless of whats happening in short time frames you look at thats a clear down trend.
Unlike stocks theres no company financials or profit margins you can look at to say that company has turned the corner even if the price isn't reflecting it yet.

@silverwolf
excellent question!
Allow me to clarify one thing- there is no such thing as a bull or bull. That is, shall I see, very old and a constant mindset that is used mostly to fool the human mind into sticking to a position that is not justified by the price action.
As a great trader said in the 1800s, there is no bull side, there is no bear side. There is only one side and thats being the right side of the market.
So to me, theres no such thing thing as a bearish or bullish move. That means nothing to me. It really doesn't. If you were to talk to other traders that do this, those not on TV nor involved with the media, would tell you that all this bearish and bullish talk is jsut that, its BS talk to make more excitement and catch attention. Being a "bull" or a "bear" doesn't make you money. Its following the price action that makes money.
The market goes goes 3 ways- up, down, or flat/sideways. Thats it.
there is NO such thing as a bull or bear trend. Again let me repeat myself,,, those terms are used to sell the news. The trading community doesn't care about those terms. They ony care about the DIRECTION.
Now to answer your question-
PMs have been in a downtrend since 2011. Since their all time high for gold in 9/30/11 they have been TRENDING down. They have made yearly lows. That confirms our downtrend. There has been no retracement from a high to a higher high. Again, prices hit an all time high and continued to go lower, making sucesive yearly LOWS. Gold has been making lower highs,,, not higher highs.
What we are seeing now IS a retracement because prices are bouncing from lows. A retracement is normal in assets that have been sold hand over fist. It is human nature to pile into a trade heavily on one side. It therefore should be no surprise that with some buying, those selling short gold would have to cover. This, however, does NOT mean we sell short gold because its in a downtrend and now bouncing. We always RESPECT all rallies and let them play out. Remember, we dont make money on calling things "bearish" or "bullish". We make MONEY because we identify any sort of trends or retracements within. This is what traders do.
I;ll have more later on what scenarios to expect and I will share some trade ideas with you all so you can, if you want, cash in on this market move.
Finally I want to say this-: control your emotions. Becareful of not feeling like you didnt get the bottom. Becareful in gloating that the price is done going down.

Several interesting things this week, lets get into it.
1- SEC filings show many large institutions in the previous quarter had been dumping their gold. No surprise there.... if you had been watching the price action you knew funds were selling. Now, here's something to chew on. some are of the opinion that this fund dumping tied with rising prices signals a real floor and that prices will rise from here. I have no clue but its something to think about if you like that angle.
2- Both gaps are filled from 6/20, on low volume at that. Not too shabby. Those are signs I look for. So far its held. Does it hold in the coming week? That will be interesting. Also, how does it act with more overhead resistance? All this time will tell us.
So we know gold and silver are bouncing. Can we profit from the move? Well, for a trade, if it meets my signals and confirmation I will take the trade.
So here's some areas I am looking for in the coming days and weeks.
I mentioned them earlier this week but I;ll mention them again this week
for silver I also like to make use of the ETF market. Two ETFs on my radar are SLV and AGQ seeing theres plenty of liquidity and volume.
These are my triggers on the following
AGQ- over 25.66 and I would take a line. MAX STOP 1-2 pts
SLV- 23.03 would be my trigger, MAX STOP 1-2 pts
ZSL gave me a triger today to sell it short but it escaped on me.
On the gold side of things, this is what my set ups are and what would trigger a trade for me
GLD- over 138.97, MAX STOP 1-2 pts
UGL- over 61.33, MAX STOP 1-2 pts
GLL- sell short @ a break of 81.82
note some of these are leveraged ETFs but these are the type situations they are used for, trading.
Until those price points are hit, I sit tight and do nothing but wait until they trigger. Then perhaps they might even trigger so time again will let me know.
So there you have it, some trading ideas. Now remember, these fit my sytle of trading, are based on what has worked for me but these are standard type traders, these fit my trading style best. I offer them as suggestion for anyone whos looking to get an edge outside of physical coin buying.

Fact is, everybody is guessing, some more educated guesses than others but guessing none the less.
I shorted 100 Eagles with zero interest when at $19 guessing it's going up. I could lose out but I could double up. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So far I guessed right, but that could easily change.
I got into bullion stacking back in January. I don't remember anybody back then guessing it would tank basically overnight and lose 50%.

Well I'm glad I didn't listen to anyone and went with my gut at $19. I guess I'll see that's for sure. I'm not a stacker, I buy and sell when it's right for me.. Good luck to all!

I dont view what I do as guessing, otherwise I wouldn't make money.
Its more of putting probabilities on my side and then taking a position. Within downtrends there are retracements, happens all the time.
Which I want to add, gold and silver, on a much longer timeframe and in overall view, are still stuck in a downtrend, nothing has changed.
Another example of downtrends with retracements are the china markets. They have had spectacular rallies in price only to months later fall back down. So none of this is new or unexpected.

This is the reason some of us aren't ready to say silver has hit bottom and is on the way back up. Take a look at that chart. Silver has been in a downtrend since May-2011. Every time silver has bounced up it gets smacked back down to an even lower low. Sometimes it has been on an uptick for months at a time only to then get smacked back down. Since May of 2011 we have had: $47.8 - $34.1 - $43.5 - $28.1 - $37.2 - $26.9 - $34.9 - $18.6. When you look at that track record a bounce from $18.61 to $23.xx doesn't look very impressive. Personally, I think silver has found it's home. I expect to see it bounce around in the low twenties / high teens for the foreseeable future. It may jump back up into the $30 but if it does it will get smacked back down again. In short I see $20 silver as the new normal and the rise from $20 to $45 in 2010/2011 as a speculative bubble that only happens every couple of decades.

JSH...agreed. I don't forsee a huge jump back into the 40's anytime soon either. I do see it as moving from high teens to low 20's - and all that is fine by me. I enjoy silver products, and I can affoord to buy them at these prices without going to ramen noodles! Lets hope it levels off for a while - at least until the next ATB is released!
