Here's another newp. First of these older copper pieces I have bought. Is an "As" the same as Sestertius or AE dupondius?

MARCUS AURELIUS. 139-161 AD, As, Rome Mint, (Struck AD 145)
9.58g. Obverse: AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG PII FIL
Bare head right. Reverse: HILARITAS / SC
Hilaritas standing left holding long palm and cornucopiae.
RIC 1260 (Antoninus Pius)

Nice coin. An AS is 1/4 of a Sestertius, a Dupondius is two ASes, and a Sestertius is 4 ASes

If it helps any .... The Sestertius was used as the measure of wealth for the most part of the Empire. A man such as Crassus would have said "I made MDCXVI Sestertii" today. Think of the (brass) Sestertius as a dollar ... The (brass) Dupondius as a 50 cent and the As is the 25 cent coin.
